Senior Consultant

Elena Locatelli, has 25 years of professional experience in the education sector, has worked for the last 20 years in Africa. Passionate about this sector, she believes that the development of a country passes through the opportunities given to the younger generations to discover, know and learn.  Elena has lived and worked in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Mali, Haiti, Sri Lanka, Liberia and Senegal.

 

After working for 9 years in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), she wanted to be able to influence education policies and decided to join UNICEF in 2009, where she held the role of Education Specialist, Section Head, and finally Specialist in Education in Emergency and Resilience for the UNICEF regional office for West and Central Africa.

 

Elena has been responsible for the design and management of various programs in different countries, revisiting the pedagogical methods used in the past, as a starting point to creatively rethink education for the 21st century, introducing new technologies and alternatives of remote learning (Radio and TV) ensuring educational continuity during emergency situations and / or pandemics. He has put into practice the methodology of transferring money to schools to support the reintegration of children and young people in developmental age at risk of school dropout, he has written and participated in the drafting of a guide for teachers on Psychosocial, and on the reduction of natural risks.
